Native of Norfolk, VA and 1964 graduate of Old Dominion University and advanced degree from San Diego State University (1976); career U.S. Navy officer serving at sea in the Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian Oceans, including Tonkin Gulf and waters off North and South Vietnam; lifelong sailor growing up near Norfolk Yacht and Country Club where I'm still a member; cruised full time in the mid-1980s along the eastern seaboard, Bahamas, Caribbean and Bermuda aboard our Allied Seawind II ketch after retiring from the Navy; founded Bluewater Books & Charts in Fort Lauderdale in 1986, hands-on manager until selling it in 2000 to go cruising again. Owned a string of powerboats including two Grand Bankses and our current boat, a Nordhavn 47 named Bluewater, which we've cruised 35,000 NM+, including an eastbound transAtlantic and two years of cruising the Mediterranean from Gib to Croatia. Total lifetime cruising miles: a little over 100,000. Longtime chief moderator of the Nordhavn Owners Group. Also own an American Tug 34 named Bluewater IV which we keep in Florida. Fort Lauderdale resident since 1985, spending winters there and summers cruising aboard Bluewater in Maine and sometimes Atlantic Canada.
