Many organizations, including Cruising Club of America, offer courses designed to help equip sailors with skills and information for a safer voyage. Some are oriented to racers, some to cruisers, some to ocean sailing and some to coastal. In our experience, all can be quite valuable.
The CCA offers seminars intended for Newport-Bermuda Race racing and return crews. The next seminars will be in Bermuda in 2017 and Newport in 2018.
"Safety for Cruising Couples" is offered by local yacht clubs. It is intended for couples in which one partner may be less adept than the other and can improve their safety -- and compatibility and comfort -- by building that partner's safety skills, awareness of prudent seamanship practices, and familiarity with important procedures. This course adeptly distills many years of successful voyaging into accessible and "actionable" advice and lessons.
