While offshore sailors and sailing organizations spend considerable time discussing safety, especially safety equipment, less time is spent on seamanship.
Our panel of some of the world’s best known offshore sailors, authors, speakers - and each a CCA member - will engage the audience in a discussion of both the principles of seamanship and how they are employed in practice.
- John Rousmaniere, moderator, and experienced ocean racer, is the author of 30 books including The Annapolis Book of Seamanship and Fastnet Force 10, and a prominent columnist and speaker on seamanship.
- Ralph Naranjo, circumnavigator, is the author of The Art of Seamanship, frequent columnist, former Vanderstar Chair at the US Naval Academy and Bermuda Race Safety Officer.
- Rich Wilson, Blue Water Medal awardee and Bermuda Race winner, has also completed two Vendee Globe solo non-stop circumnavigations, holds several records for long distance voyages and has taught 300,000 children about seamanship.
Attendance is open to CCA members and their guests, young and old, on a first come-first served basis. There will be no charge but if you plan to attend please register below. Questions may be addressed to Ernie Godshalk, chair, Safety & Seamanship Committee, at firstname.lastname@example.org
Due to unexpectedly strong response, we will not be able to hold the planned reception due to space constraints.
