Guidelines for Submissions to the CCA GAM:
The website’s submission form is the simplest and easiest way to upload and submit up to 100MB documents and photos with captions on the same form: https://cruisingclub.org/form/materials-submission. The fall deadline is October 15, and the spring deadline is March 15. Please contact the chief editor if you have any issues or questions: gam@cruisingclub.org.
In addition to station/post news, photos, and announcements, interesting articles will be printed if space is available or otherwise will be referred to the editor at Voyages, if appropriate. Stations/posts can also provide a schedule of their cruises and special events for inclusion on the back cover of the CCA GAM in the “Calendar of Events” section (please look at the last issue to see if that information is current).
For all submissions, please clearly indicate which issue and section of the CCA GAM for which your contribution is intended (Fall 2020 Station Report: New York Station or Spring 2021 Events: Ski GAM). See style notes below. Please also proofread (I recommend reading aloud to yourself to catch mistakes) and make sure your submission is clear to save everyone time and confusion. The editing team’s task is to maintain the character and intent of each submitted text while correcting spelling and syntax errors, and only by exception, rewriting small portions for clarity.
Photos should have a caption that identifies who is in the photo or what is shown. For the station and post reports, please submit 3-5 photos for us to choose from and indicate where they should be placed within the text. Minimum size required is 480KB (1MB preferred). Please do not embed the photos in your articles unless you also email or upload them separately to the online submission form so that the resolution isn’t reduced.
Thank you for keeping members informed by contributing to the next CCA GAM!
Style notes:
- Station/post news should be 500-750 words and written in WORD (if possible) using 11-point Times New Roman font.
- Use only one space after periods (two resulted from early monospaced typewriters but no longer needed).
- Use upper case for certain crew positions as in Skipper, Navigator, and Watch Captain. Use lower case for all other positions.
- Boat names should be italicized (Acorn, Josephine, Shamrock IV, and Glory III).
- Publication names of major works, books, magazines, and websites should be italicized (Cruising World, Scuttlebutt, The Rudder).
- Songs and article titles are not italicized but should have quotation marks around them.
- For CCA member quotes or literary excerpts, introduce the source and then use quotation marks and italics since that has been consistent GAM format (we aren’t able to indent for long block quotes with three-columns per page).
- Use Newport Bermuda Race as shown (no hyphen). All race names shall be upper case and written as advertised by the host organization as in Marblehead-to-Halifax Ocean Race.
- Omit ordinal abbreviations for dates unless the day of the month comes first as in the 15th of March. Use cardinal numbers when the month or day of the week comes first as in Monday, March 15.
