Ownership

Gamin, a Buchan 37,was built by William Buchan Sr, patriarch of one of Seattle's most accomplished sailboat racing families, in 1964 for Lon Robinson. Buchan 37s were known through the 1970s and early 80s as fierce, fast racer/cruisers. Gamin herself, with Lonnie at the helm, won Seattle Yacht Club's sailboat of the year in 1980 and has raced over 30 Swiftsures, placing well almost every year. Roddy Hearne started racing with Lonnie as crew in the early 1990s. Even in the 1990s Gamin continued to place well in races throughout the Salish Sea, winning the Tri-Island Series in the early 90s and Vashon Island race overall in 2000. Over the years Roddy became Lonnie's boat partner and when Lonnie turned 100 years old, and having owned her for 50 years, he passed Gamin's helm over to Roddy to sail her into the future.
