The well attended March luncheon at the New Bedford Yacht Club included a talk by Richard Armstrong. Richard is a CCA member and a South Dartmouth resident with wide experience in a number of different types of boats. The William G. Underwood was built for the Underwood company to support the Maine herring fishery. Richard talked about the boat’s history, restoration and the operation of this fishery that once supported hundreds of jobs along the Maine coast. He also talked about Little Vigilant, a sardine carrier type designed for Draughton Cochran and Mr. Cochran’s important connection with the Concordia Co. After lunch, everyone took a tour of the Underwood, which is berthed next door at South Wharf.
