The Far Horizons Award
The Far Horizons Award was established in 2005 by the CCA Governing Board to recognize members of the Cruising Club of America for a particularly meritorious cruise or series of cruises that exemplify the objectives of the club. The name of the award is derived from the name of the books published by the Club containing accounts of cruising adventures by its members.
The Cruising Club of America (CCA) is proud to announce that Maxwell A. Fletcher, of Orr’s Island, Maine has been awarded the Club’s premier sailing award for a member, the Far Horizons Award, for 2023. This award recognizes the sailing achievements of a member who has embarked upon a cruise or series of cruises that demonstrate the broader objectives of the Club including the adventurous use of the sea.
The Far Horizons Award recognizes Cruising Club of America (CCA) members for a particularly meritorious cruiser or series of cruises.
Don and Sharry Stabbert are the recipients of the Cruising Club of America’s 2021 Far Horizons Award, awarded for their 20-year series of cruises throughout the Pacific Ocean, the North Atlantic Ocean, and the Mediterranean Sea. Over two decades, they covered more than 100,000 nautical miles in Starr, their single-engine 77’ Northern Marine Trawler.
Stephen Brown is the recipient of the Cruising Club of America’s 2020 Far Horizons Award, awarded for his five-year series of cruises through the Northwest Passage, Alaska, Chilean Channels, South Georgia, Antarctica, and return to Maine, completing a circumnavigation of the Americas.

In recognition of his numerous record-setting voyages as navigator, the CCA honored Stan Honey with its 2018 Far Horizons Award. The CCA established the award to recognize a member or members for “a particularly meritorious voyage or series of voyages that exemplify the objectives of the Club.”
The Kuhners honeymooned on their new 23 foot O’Day Tempest, sailing from Westport, Connecticut to Nantucket. That was in 1969. Now, 48 years later they are still sailing mostly in the Bahamas in the winter and Maine in the summer.
CCA has selected Cabot and Heidi Lyman (Cushing, Maine) to receive the Club’s Far Horizons Award for 2016 in recognition of their extensive offshore cruising, which includes their 1987-90 circumnavigation. The award will be presented at the CCA’s annual Awards Dinner at the New York Yacht Club in New York on March 3, 2017. The Board of Governors established the award to recognize a member or members of CCA for “a particularly meritorious cruise or series of cruises that exemplify the objects of the Club as stated in its Constitution.”
The Cruising Club of America (CCA) has selected Kaspar and Trisha Schibli of Victoria, B.C.
